The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Michael Ramsey, said in Johannesburg on Tuesday (I December) that violent revolution in South Africa could only be averted by massive changes initiated by white people to remove some of the injustices of life there. Dr. Ramsey was speaking at an airport press conference at the end of his three-week tour of South Africa.
Dr. Ramsey also expressed disbelief in the South African Government's claim that it is bringing its Bantu people to separate autonomy by re-settling them in their own lands such as the Transkei,
The Archbishop left for Nairobi for a brief stop before starting a five-day visit to Uganda.
