  • Description

THE BELGIAN MEDICAL SITUATION IS SLOWLY RETURNING TO NORMAL FOLLOWING YESTERDAY'S (SATURDAY) SETTLEMENT IN THE 17-DAY DOCTORS' STRIKE.

HOWEVER, MANY DOCTORS WHO WERE CALLED INTO THE ARMED FORCES IN AN EMERGENCY MEASURE ARE STILL ON DUTY, CARING FOR THE HUNDREDS OF PATIENTS ADMITTED TO THE MILITARY HOSPITALS.

OTHERS ALREADY HAVE BEEN DEMOBILISED OR BROUGHT HOME FROM TEMPORARY SERVICE WITH BELGIUM'S NATO FORCE IN WEST GERMANY. FILM SHOWS SCENES AT THE BIG MILITARY HOSPITAL IN BRUSSELS.

HERE 700 PATIENTS WERE TAKEN IN DURING THE PAST FORTNIGHT. TO ALLOW SOME OF THE DOCTORS TO RESUME THEIR NORMAL PRACTICE, THOSE WELL ENOUGH TO BE CARED FOR AT HOME HAVE BEEN DISCHARGED.
