    Egyptian President Anwar Sadat is hopeful that his country, Israel and the United States will soon be able to agree on a formula for maintaining a United Nations presence on the Sinai peninsula. Following talks with Israeli opposition labour party leader Shimon Peres on Tuesday (24 July), Mr Sadat appeared optimistic that Israeli objections to replacing the emergency force with a U.N. Truce Supervision organisation could be overcome. The U.N. Security Council has voted unanimously to disband its four thousand man emergency force which has been acting as a buffer unit in Sinai for the past four years. So a vacuum could be created in a few weeks time when the troop withdrawal is completed.

    SYNOPSIS: Mr Shimon Peres arrived in Alexandria on Tuesday (24 July) with a personal message for President Sadat from Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin. The talks were held in the relaxed atmosphere of President Sadat's seaside rest house near Alexandria where the two politicians agreed to speak to reporters, first Mr Sadat:
