Background: After the package holiday, the package wedding -- designed on the same cost-cutting basis. In Singapore, more and more Asian couples are turning to mass weddings as a means of saving money.
It's the idea of a local tour group. Couples pay an all-in price for a package that includes the wedding ceremony, the reception, and honeymoon in one of several Asian countries.
In the most recent of Singapore's mass wedding ceremonies -- the third in six months -- 100 couples took part.
The promoters called it the "Marriage Extravaganza of the Year". The idea isn't limited to Singapore. Similar mass weddings are being organised in Hong Kong and Malaysia, and the sponsors are planning even larger marriage marathons next year.
