  • Description

Visiting British Foreign Secretary Anthony Crosland started his formal discussions on Monday morning (10 May) with his Japanese counterpart, kiichi Miyazawa.

Mr. Crosland, who arrived in Tokyo on Sunday (9 May) after a six-day visit to China, is expected to have wide-ranging talks with Japanese government officials during his three-day official visit.

During the first of his two 90-minute meetings with Mr, Miyazawa, the British Foreign Secretary is expected to emphasis ways of improving the widening bilateral trade imbalance, currently running in Japan's favour.

Britain's trade deficit with Japan in 1975 stood at 364 million pounds sterling, an increase of 113 million pounds sterling over 1974 figures.

Mr. Crosland is also expected to ask Japan to take measures aimed at giving British cars an easier access to the Japanese market.

Before leaving Japan on Tuesday (11 May), Mr. Crosland will hold talks with Prime Minister Takeo Miki and Minister for International Trade and Industry, Toshio Komoto.
