Background: Senior government officials headed some 14,000 Kenyans in the 10th annual Freedom from Hunger walk in Nairobi on Saturday (24 May).
The Police Commissioner, who is also the Commissioner for the Kenya Freedom from Hunger Council, Mr. Bernard Hinga, and the Minister for Commerce and Industry, Dr. Keino Kenyas, were among the many to take part in the 25-km (15 miles) walk to raise funds for the Council.
The Council is spearheading the fight against famine and droughts. Over the years, it has distributed pumps and pipes to help irrigate otherwise unfertile land.
The voluntary agency also conducts training courses for farmers as well as offering grants to those living in areas affected by droughts.
