    A four-day conference on South East Asia's natural resources and the wold economy opened in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday (17 September).

    350 delegates form the five-member association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) attended the conference, organised by the Financial Times of London, British Airways and Malaysian Airlines System.

    Malaysian Rime Minister, Tun Abdul Razak, opened the conference on Tuesday. In his opening speech, he called for more equitable sharing of benefits between producers and consumers.

    The Prime Minister said Malaysia wanted to control exploitation of its resources but develop them through joint centures with foreign enterprises which have the necessary technology and capital.

    During the conference, the delegates will hear other speakers discuss the future of the region's main primary products, their economic impact and political developments in South East Asia.
