  • Description

This package contains 66 feet 16mm opt neg of a rally for Democratic Vice Presidential candidate Hubert Humphrey and Democratic Senatorial candidate Robert Kennedy. Tens of thousands of persons (a union leader put the figure at an optimistic 250,000) jammed eight blocks along Manhattan's Seventh Avenue, the nation's garment center. The rally at bunch hour 29 October was sponsored by the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, a union with a long tradition of liberal political action. The union is a dominant force is New York State's small, but highly active Liberal Party, which usually, but not always endorse Democratic and sometimes provides the balance of power in the state. This year, the party has endorsed Johnson, Humphrey and the signs visible in the film urge that votes them be cast under the Liberal Party designation on voting machines.
