    OFFICERS AND CADETS OF THE JAPANESE NAVY, OFFICIALLY DESCRIBED AS THE MARITIME SELF DEFENCE FORCE AND WHO ARE IN ENGLAND ON A FIVE-DAY VISIT, TODAY (THURSDAY) VISITED THE BRITISH HOUSE OF COMMONS.

    IT IS CUSTOMARY FOR MOST FOREIGN VISITORS TO VIEW THE HOUSE OF COMMONS, OF TIMES SPOKEN OF AS "THE MOTHER OF PARLIAMENTS." TODAY WAS NO EXCEPTION.

    THE VISIT WAS MADE BY REAR ADMIRAL KOJI TAKIKAWA, COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF, TRAINING FLEET, AND 180 OFFICERS AND CADETS.

    IT'S THE FIRST JAPANESE NAVAL VISIT TO ENGLISH SHORES SINCE THE 1937 CORONATION, AND THE AIM IS TO ENCOURAGE GOOD RELATIONS.

    THE VISITORS TO LONDON WERE DRAWN FROM THE FOUR DESTROYERS WHICH STEAMED INTO PORTSMOUTH YESTERDAY TO THE BOOMING OF EXCHANGED GUN SALUTES WITH BRITISH NAVAL PARTIES ASHORE. THE SHIPS ARE MANNED BY APPROXIMATELY 1,200 OFFICERS AND MEN.

    THEIR PROGRAMME HERE INCUDES A JUDO CONTEST WITH THE BRITISH JUDO ASSOCIATION, AND A RUGBY MATCH.
