  • Description

The impact of drought on African cattle and meat production was among the most pressing topics under discussion in Abidjan on Friday (July 5), where ministers from five West African countries met for the ninth conference of the Economic Community for Cattle and Meat.

During the two days of talks, the whole future of the Community was due to come under scrutiny, wit the possibility of enlarging it in the future.

One of the attending ministers, Upper Volta Commerce, Industrial Development and Mines Minister Emmanuel Zoma, said in Abidjan that the meeting should discuss the functions of the community in the light of the decision to create another cattle and meat grouping within the West African Economic Community.

Upper Volta, the Ivory Coast and Niger are members of both groupings. The other African countries taking part in Friday's discussion were Dahomey and Toga, with Mali attending as an observer.
