Background: VISNEWS filmed, July 2 Prince Albert and his bride, Italian Princess Paola Ruffo di Calabria, as they drove through cheering crowds to be married in the Church of Saints Michel and Gudule in Brussels.
The Princess was wearing a white satin gown with long lace train, and from an open car banked with flowers she waved to the enthusiastic throngs of people lining the route to the church. Prince Albert, 25-year-old brother of King Baudouin of Belgium, was wearing naval form.
The streets were decked with the flags of Belgium and Italy for the occasion and the procession, escorted by cavalry, moved towards the church to the sound of bells pealing and guns firing salutes.
The religious ceremony was conducted by the Primate of Belgium and in the church were King Baudouin, ex-King Leopold and his wife, Princess de Rethy, the bride's mother, and other members of the Italian royal family. Earlier a civil ceremony conducted by the Burgomaster of Brussels, was held at the Royal Palace.
After a wedding luncheon at Laeken Palace the Royal couple flew to Majorca, for their honeymoon.
