  • Description

History, it seems, may have misjudged Giacomo Casanova -- believed by many to have been the most prolific lover of all time. A conference of his namesakes which has just met at Milano Marittima, near Rimini, Italy, has decided that he was a respectable man.

The conference was organised by 49-years-old Boesio Casanova who is a lawyer. He invited a total of 1,539 Casanovas he had traced in 18 different countries. During their meeting the 96 Casanovas who turned up for the conference decided to meet again in Barcelona, Spain.

After discussing their notorious namesake, Boesio Casanova said: "Our final conclusion is that Giacomo Casanova was a respectable man in an age of rascals."
During the conference the party visited Venice, to see the house where Casanova lived. On the practical side they agreed to set up scholarships for the children of needy Casanovas.

Despite their enthusiasm none of the party could prove descent from the original Casanova. His 10-volume memoirs are packed with accounts of innumerable love affairs -- but he never married.
