Foreign Minister Moshe Dayan made the following statement: "We introduced changes. Hope that Egypt will be forthcoming so we can reach agreement with them.
Question- Are they major changes?
Dayan- They are substantial. If the Egyptians have the spirit can accept it. We have to listen to them too. I still hope that we can reach compromise agreement but there's no other way.
Defense Minister Ezer Weizman made this statement after being asked "Do you show optimism? "Egyptian agreement can be got for the Israeli amendments. I am steady in opinion that there's more than a fair chance of completing the peace treaty.
Question - Do you anticipate lengthy negotiations or can still be wrapped up in 2 to 3 weeks? Weizman - " 2 to 3 weeks is fair enough."
Question - You don't believe that Egypt is going to call for stronger links on West Bank issue?
Weizman - With due respect to media, I listen to Egypt not newspapers. Same goes for Israel.
Question - Is treaty misunderstood in Israel, is there too much pessimism?
Weizman - A little too much perhaps but this is not an easy act for Israel to do what we're doing. We are hoping for peace but we are giving up a lot. Israelis are concerned but I think they should be less pessimistic.
Question - Are there major changes in peace draft?
Weizman - There are changes which we have taken it on ourselves to attempt and introduce into the agreement.
Question - Can Israel get the agreement it seeks on the West Bank and still reach peace with Egypt?
Weizman - I think that if all parties concerned negotiate in the spirit of the last few weeks it can be done.
