Prices on the New York Stock Market slid even further on Tuesday (May 27). The Dow Jones Index -- an average of Major industrial stock prices in the United States -- lost more than 10 points to close at 631, the lowest level since the President Kennedy assassination in November 1963.
The fall on Wall Street comes at a time of increasing uncertainty in the United States about the Indo-China war, continuing inflation and poor company profits. Prices on European, British and Japanese Stock Exchanges are also depressed and analysts are uncertain as to which way the market will move next. However, Government officials in the United States are saying they expect an upturn in the economy before the end of the year. President Nixon was due to meet top economic and business officials on Wednesday evening to discuss the situation.
