A mission from The People's Republic of China has arrived in the Republic of Chad to build an important bridge across the River Chari in the south west of the country.
A mission from The People's Republic of China has arrived in the Republic of Chad to build an important bridge across the River Chari in the south west of the country. The bridge will provide a link between Chad and the bordering motions of Cameroon and Nigeria and when built wi contribute greatly to the development of Chad.
On friday (25 January) the members of the Chinese mission met the Presidents of Chad, N'Gartha Tombalbaye at the Presidential Villa.
The leader of the delegation Mr. Chang Tchi Yue told Chad newsmen they were in Chad under the terms of a technical co-operation agreement signed between China and Chad in September last year.
Work will start next week on the plans for the bridge, which will have separate lanes for pedestrians and vehicles. It will be built with the help of Chad technicians.
Also on Friday Chad nominated its first ambassador to The People's Republic of China. He is Mrs. Naimbaye Lassimian, a former Public Works and Mining Minister.
Since Chad recognised The People's Republic the country has received extensive financial help, including drought aid.
Official sources in Chad have praised China for the generosity of the aid and said they were impressed that no strings were attached.
