SYNOPSIS: THE NEWEST VERSION OF THE WORLD-FAMED LOCKHEED C-130 AIRLIFTERS WILL BEGIN FULL-SCALE SERVICE WITH THE ROYAL AIR FORCE OF GREAT BRITAIN IN 1967...THE FIRST AIRCRAFT IS ALREADY AT CAMBRIDGE, ENGLAND, BEING PREPARED FOR OPERATIONAL DUTY...FORMAL DELIVERY WAS MADE AT YEAR-END AT MARIETTA, GA.....

PARTICIPANTS IN THE GOVERNMENT-TO-GOVERNMENT PROGRAM INCLUDE AIR FORCE SYSTEMS COMMAND, AERONAUTICAL SYSTEMS DIVISION, AND AIR FORCE LOGISTICS COMMAND AS WELL AS OTHER ELEMENTS OF THE U.S. AIR FORCE.

PARADING ITS NEW ROYAL AIR FORCE COLORS, THE FIRST HERCULES C. MARK ONE PROUDLY STANDS BY AT CEREMONIES OBSERVING ITS DELIVERY TO THE UNITED KINGDOM.

PRESIDING WAS W. A. PULVER, PRESIDENT OF THE LOCKHEED-GEORGIA COMPANY, PRODUCER OF THE MARK ONE.

THE HERCULES IS ALREADY SERVING 13 NATIONS OF THE WORLD AND COMMERCIAL AIRLINES. THE FIRST FLIGHT OF THE BRITISH C. MARK ONE CAPPED AN UNRIVALED WORLD-WIDE C-130 PERFORMANCE RECORD...AND AS LOCKHEED CREWS DETERMINED FLIGHT CHARACTERISTICS OF THE NEW AIRCRAFT...

...ROYAL AIR FORCE CREWS WERE CHECKED OUT ON ITS OPERATION AT SPECIAL CLASSES HELD BY THE U.S. AIR FORCE AT SEWART AIR FORCE BASE, TENNESSEE.

TO ASSURE COMPATIBILITY WITH OTHER ROYAL AIR FORCE AIRCRAFT, APPROXIMATELY 80 PERCENT OF THE AVIONICS INSTALLATIONS ARE MANUFACTURED AND SUPPLIED BY THE UNITED KINGDOM. IN ADDITION, FOUR BRITISH MANUFACTURERS ARE SUPPLYING OTHER PARTS AND EQUIPMENT FOR THE MARK ONE DIRECTLY TO LOCKHEED.

ROYAL AIR FORCE CREWS RECEIVED FURTHER OPERATIONAL FAMILIARIZATION FROM FULL SCALE MOCKUPS SIMULATING EVERY CONDITION OF FLIGHT. AND...IT WAS JUST A SHORT STEP FROM THE MOCKUP TO THE FLIGHT LINE TO PRE-LIGHT THE AIRCRAFT ITSELF.

THE PRIMARY BRITISH MISSION OF THE HERCULES WILL BE AIR TRANSPORTATION OF TROOPS AND MATERIAL FOR DELIVERY, EITHER BY PARACHUTE OR LANDING, AS REQUIRED. AT THE DELIVERY CEREMONY...

...RAF AIR MARSHAL SIR REGINALD EMSON OFFICIALLY ACCEPTED THE AIRCRAFT FOR THE UNITED KINGDOM.

ATTENDING WERE BRITISH REPRESENTATIVES OF THE MINISTRY OF AVIATION, THE WASHINGTON EMBASSY, THE U.S. AND BRITISH PRESS, AND OFFICIALS OF THE U.S. AIR FORCE.

A CAMOUFLAGED MODEL OF THE MARK ONE WAS PASSED FROM THE MANUFACTURER TO U.S. AIR FORCE GENERAL KEELING AND AIR MARSHAL SIR REGINALD EMSON.

THEN, FLYING THE ROYAL AIR FORCE ENSIGN, THIS NEWEST MEMBER OF THE HERCULES FAMILY TAXIED OUT...THEN TOOK OFF.

SIXTY-FIVE MORE ARE DESTINED TO FOLLOW... THE LARGEST NUMBER OF HERCULES ORDERED BY ANY GOVERNMENT EXCEPT THE UNITED STATES.
