The irreplacable 100-carat DeLong Ruby is back in the hands of the American of Natural History after being ransomed from the underworld by a multi-millionaire for $25,000.

The brilliant gem was recovered form a ledge in a public telephone booth along a busy expressway in West Palm Beach, Florida.A go-between, Francis Antel, who identified himself as a free-lance writer, contacted McArthur to arrange for the return of the ruby, which was being held by the underworld for collateral for a loan to the three men who stole it and other gems from New York City Museum last Oct.29.The thieves are in jail and, with the recovery of the ruby, all major gems taken are back in the hands of the museum.

McArthur and Antel were sent through underworld mazes before the stone turned up.

McArthur was finally directed to the telephone booth. When he arrived the telephone was ringing and Antel was on the other end.He said the ruby was on the ledge of the booth above the door.

A bank where McArthur had placed the money in escrow last month turned The ransom over the Antel for relay to the underworld.
