  • Description

Continuing their recent visit to Salonika, King Paul and Queen Frederika joined in the nation-wide celebrations on the 27th anniversary of "Ohi" Day.

Ohi - which means "No" in Greek - records the firm reply given to the Italian ultimatum calling on the Greeks to surrender.

Despite cloudy weather and occasional rain, huge crowds lined the streets to welcome the King and Queen who were accompanied by the Crown Prince Constantine, wearing a naval cadet uniform, who laid a wreath on the tomb of the warriors of the Third Army Corps.

The royal family were joined on the saluting base by Prime Minister Karamanlis who joined them to watch the military parade which took 75 minutes to roll past the dais.

Overhead, 'planes of the Greek Air Force spelt out "OHI", (No).
