    Mr Peter Stambolic, former president of Yugoslavia's federal executive council, arrived in Algiers on Saturday (2 September, 1967) for a meeting with the Algerian leader, M. Houari Boumedienne.

    Mr Stambolic, who is 55 year old, was in Algeria as a special envoy from President Tito of Yugoslavia. During his visit he had a meeting with Mr. Boumedienne which lasted for more than an hour.

    President Tito, who has emerged as a champion of the Arab cause following the recent Six-Day war, is currently leading a drive among Eastern European Communist leaders to increase economic cooperation with the Arab states.

    Deputy prime ministers of eight Eastern bloc Communist countries are currently meeting in Belgrade to discuss the proposed cooperation.
