Coming from Ankara, arrived today at noon the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Middle-East Affairs Mr. William M. Rountree, accompanied by Mr. Owen Jones, director of Greek-Turkish-Persian Affairs of State Department. Greek Political circles commenting the arrival of Mr. Rountree give special importance to this event, for he is to brief Greek Premier on the latest developments on Cyprus issue after the Bagdad Pact Conference in Ankara. Mr. Rountree will have a meeting with Greek Foreign Minister Averoff too. Tomorrow (Sunday) evening, Mr. Rountree will attend a dinner to be given in his honour by American Charge d'Affaires Mr. Penfield at the latter's residence, where Premier Karamanlis and other members of the Greek Government have been invited. After the dinner, it is expected that various questions will be discussed, including the Cyprus problem and the Government will be posted on various developments. Mr. Rountree, in the course of his stay in Athens, will not meet any leaders of the Opposition parties.
