  • Description

American Chris Evert slammed her way to victory in the Virginia Slime tournament tennis at Richfield, Ohio on Sunday (February 9) and in so doing, blunted the come-back attempt of Australian Margaret Court.

The tournament organisers could not have wished for a better women's final than the matching of the 1973 champion, Mrs. Court and the 1974 champion, Miss Evert.

In the event, it was Miss Evert who ran out a two sets to one winner - 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Thus, Miss Evert took her second tournament win of the year, while Mrs. Court reached the finals in only her second tournament since returning to top-class tennis after the birth of her second child.

Miss Evert beat Britain's Virginia Wade in the semi-finals while Mrs. Court won her semi-final against the Russian Olga Morozova. Her victory left Miss Evert 15,000 dollars richer.

However, Miss Evert was not entirely pleased with her performance until the third set of the game, as she explains in an interview incorporated on the track of this film.
