CU Prince Saudi Arabian Defence Minister, speaking in English at news conference
Transcript: "All (indistinct) and I don't think this is just the anxiety of Saudi Arabia but of everybody in the Middle East is that following the intervention in the problems that exist in ... as a matter of fact (indistinct) have never solved the problems that expanded the area of conflict, especially if the intervention is from a major power which leads to the problems that exists in Africa, indeed they exist everywhere, that expand the problems from being a regional problems, to a problem which has implications in the international field. We look forward to initiatives from Africa in this field. We know that many of the African countries have expressed their anxiety also. In any case, we share the same anxiety and we will co-operate with them an we have in all fields. Now you know Africa and the Arab world consider, as I said before, that their interests are mutual. They are developing countries and they see the threats that are against them are also threats of a collective nature."
Prince Sultan (correct) also said that Saudi Arabia was not seeking French Mirage fighters for its air force. He said that after the United States agreement to supply Saudi Arabia with 60 F-15 fighters, he did not at present need to search for new sources of military aircraft. In the past, France has sold nearly one-billion dollars worth of Mirages, tanks, helicopters and missiles to Saudi Arabia. The Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Saud Al-Faisal, said the two countries were continuing to co-operate closely in the weapons field , but added that armaments was not the only field of co-operation.
