    Representatives of Zambia and West Germany signed a capital aid deal worth 6.3 million mark (about 1.3 million pounds sterling) in Bonn on Wednesday (18 February).

    The signing came after extensive talks between Lishomwa Lishomwa...the personal advisor to Zambian President Kenneth Kaunda...and West German Foreign Minister Hans-Dietrich Genser.

    Mr Lishomwa also had discussions with Dr Udo Kollatz, State Secretary in the Bonn Ministry for Economic Co-operation.

    The capital grant deal was signed by the Zambian Ambassador to West Germany, Mr Chiwe, and West Germany's roving Ambassador for Development Aid, Mr Hermes.

    The Governor of the Zambian Bank, B.R. Kuwani, and Mr Walusiku from the Zambian Finance Ministry were also present at the signing ceremony.

    The West German Government released no details on the conditions of the grant or what the money is to be used for.
