Background: Japanese Prime Minister Takeo Fukuda agreed to extend a loan of 100 million US dollars for the Thailand's five-year economic development plan.

Mr. Fukuda arrived in Bangkok on Monday for a two-day official visit. He was greeted at Don Muang Airport by Thailand's Prime Minister, Mr. Thanin Kraivichien, when he flew in from Singapore with a large party of ministers and officials on a 10-day tour to six non-communist Southeast Asian countries.

In two-and-a-half hours of talks, the two premiers agreed to consider a Thai request for an increase in the loan for the Thailand's five-year development plan. They also reached a full agreement of views on Asian and International issues.

Mr. Fukuda told a press conference later that he and Mr. Thanin reached complete agreement on the importance of coexistence between the two groups - the ASEAN countries, which groups Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines, and the three communist countries of Indochina.

Before the meeting, Foreign ministers Upadit Pachariyangkun of Thailand and Iichiro Hatoyama of Japan signed the agreement notes proving for a Japanese grant of up to four million US dollars for a new centre in Northeast Thailand where young Thais will learn motor mechanics.
