    GROUPS OF STUDENTS WENT FROM ONE SCHOOL TO ANOTHER URGING OTHERS TO JOIN THEM IN THE DEMONSTRATION.

    OUTSIDE THE GREEK EMBASSY THEY CROWDED AROUND SHOUTING DEMANDS FOR "GENUINE ENOSIS" AND THE RETURN TO CYPRUS OF GENERAL GEORGE GRIVAS WHO WAS RECALLED TO ATHENS LAST WEEK.

    REPORTS THERE SAY HE WAS STRIPPED OF HIS COMMAND OF THE GREEK AND GREEK-CYPRIOT ARMED FORCES.

    WHILE THE STUDENTS WERE HOLDING THEIR DEMONSTRATION PRESIDENT MAKARIOS AND UNITED STATES SPECIAL ENVOY CYPRUS VANCE WERE HOLDING FURTHER TALKS IN AN EFFORT TO SMOOTH OUT AN UNEXPECTED HITCH IN THE CYPRUS PEACE SETTLEMENT.

    MR. VANCE REFUSED TO COMMENT AFTER THE MEETING. BOTH GREEK AND AMERICAN OFFICIAL CIRCLES HAVE MAINTAINED A RIGID SILENCE ON THE NATURE OF THE HITCH WHICH BROUGHT MR. VANCE HURRYING BACK TO CYPRUS ON FRIDAY NIGHT (DEC 1).
