  • Description

Six men were killed in Pasadena, California, when a motorway bridge they were constructing collapsed on Tuesday night (17 October).

At least twenty-one workmen were injured, six critically, when the centre span of the five hundred-foot (152-metre) long bridge gave way.

The dead men were part of a crew pouring wet cement into wooden and steel forms. The temporary scaffolding collapsed and the 100-foot high (30 metres) centre section of the bridge slid into a ravine not far from the roadway.

The bridge was the seventh Californian highway structure to collapse in two years.
