  • Description

Money may be tight, but London's Ideal Home Exhibition shows little sign of bowing to the recession and losing its traditional commercial know-how.

The organisers and exhibitors seem to have decided that if business is quiet, the best way to bring back the buyers is to stage the brightest show possible.

So London's Olympia is once again ??? out with acres of soft furnishings, complete houses built for the occasion, endless "space-age" kitchens to stop housewives in their tracks, and even a few off-beat reminders of a more traditional way of life, like Indian craftsmen printing cloth.

And there are also a few hints on how to go about making a recession-conscious Ideal Home, including furniture made from such waste products as old oil drums and a complete section devoted to growing your own food.

Princes Anne was among the visitors to tour the show yesterday (Monday, 3 March).
