  • Description

News reached the International Council of the Bahai World Faith at Haifa of the death in London of SOGHI EFFENDI RABBANI, spiritual and administrative leader of Bahai followers throughout the world.

He died from heart failure after a severe attack of Asian flu, at the age of 61. He is survived by his wife.

The Bahai faith and shrines are located in Haifa.

During the period of guardianship of Soghi Rabbani the Bahai faith grew from small communities in 35 countries to a world wide scope, with followers of many races in 257 countries and islands and some 4500 spiritual centres. Bahai literature has been translated into over 200 languages. One of the main goals of the faith is the establishment of world peace and a world order to maintain it.

It was Shoghi Rabbani who arranged for the planting of the famous Bahai gardens on the slope of Mt. CARMEL in Haifa and the construction of the Golden Domed Shrine of the BAB (the founder of the faith) - from Iranian origin - and the new Archives Building (in form of a greek Temple). In the garden are also small but beautiful white temples, the grave of the BAB followers.

Because of the mourning week, gardens and temples were closed to the public and it is only by special permission that photographers were allowed into the place.

No ceremony are to be held by the Bahai in Haifa this week.

SHOGHI RABBANI WILL BE BURIED IN LONDON NEXT SATURDAY.
