Background: Four student guerrillas from the University of La Paz, Bolivia, who were killed last July 30th at the town of Teoponte, 95 miles north of La Paz, ere given a public funeral Sunday (Sept. 27th) at La Paz.

Police, Army troops and students have clashed frequently in Bolivia. The four students who were buried Sunday were "in the field" at Teoponte when Army troops caught and killed them. The bodies were interred and later exhumed for last Sunday's burial. The ceremonies followed a hunger strike in La Paz among the university people.

The four coffins were borne out of the University at La Paz and along the streets of the capital. Mourners marching in the procession carried placards naming each of the dead, with his picture on it.

Others in the procession along crowded streets set up wreaths on easels along the curbstones. Finally, photographs of the dead students were carried by members of their families.

The town of Teoponte was occupied for several hours in mid-July by members of Bolivia's "national Liberation Army." These guerrillas burned the offices of the U.S. owned gold mining firm, "South American Placers, Inc.", stole five thousand dollars and fled into the jungle with two West German technicians as hostages. They were freed later after Bolivian authorities released ten prisoners.
