Background: At the Equatoria Army HQ were shown today some of the thousands of weapons the Army say they have captured from the rebels. Many of the weapons shown were captured on the East & West borders within the last 4 months. Some are Egyptian which according to their numbers were captured by Israeli forces when UAR soldiers retreated from Sinai during 6-day war. Others are Russian, Chinese, English, Belgian & West German. The Army claims they supplied to the rebels by brail & by Church Organizations which have turned their attention to the Sudan since the end of the Biafran Civil War. Also among the weapons was a rebel flag, of the ANYANYA a new one said the intelligence officer as it had the words ANYANYA printed on it. This was captured only a few weeks ago. While we were there, reports came in saying weapons with Israeli markings had been captured in the Bush. Also shown a safe-conduct pass in ANYANYA office adjoining his unit, and photographs found on captured rebels.
