    King Faisal of Saudi Arabia arrived in Rome on Friday (June 8) for a two-day official visit -- the first by a Saudi Arabian ruler to Italy.

    Soon after arriving at Ciampino Airport, King Faisal had an hourlong meeting with President Giovanni Leone.

    The talks were reported to have been very cordial, and the two leaders expressed the desire for increased co-operation between Italy and Saudi Arabia, possibly involving Saudi Arabian oil resources and Italian industrial and technical knowledge.

    The Middle East situation was also discussed. King Faisal and President Leone expressed a common interest in obtaining peace in the Middle East.

    King Faisal was welcomed to Italy at the airport by the Italian Prime Minister Giulio Andrsotti.
