Background: From Bulgaria, a Polish Government mission, headed by Premier Wladyslaw Gomulka, went on to Budapest for a two day visit. The items for discussion were, increasing the flow of trade between the two countries and the extension of economic co-operation.
A mass meeting was held at the great Sports Hall where the people of Budapest heard members of their own Government and of the Polish delegation. The first Secretary of the Hungarian Workers' Party and Premier of Hungary, Janos Kadar, was the main speaker for the Hungarians, and Mr.Gomulka for the visitors. The later told the gathering that the people of Poland watch, with sympathy, the reconstruction of normal life in Hungary by the workers.
A joint declaration after the Government talks declared that fruitful talks and personal contacts will contribute to further consolidation of the unity of the Socialist countries. It was also stated that the visit of the Polish delegation would strengthen the traditional friendship between the Polish and Hungarian nations.
