Background: The first Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) Exhibition Centre was recently opened in Bangkok, Thailand to promote trade among member nations.
All five members nations -- Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand -- are partipating in the exhibit, which will be permanently based in Bangkok.
Situated in the main business sector of the Thai capital, the exhibit occupies 1075 sq. meters of floor space in the Siam Shopping Centre. Thailand donated the site, but operation costs will be covered from a common fund.
The centre, conceived at a special ministerial conference in 1972, will also conduct marketing research for ASEAN goods abroad.
