Mr. Nikolai Patolichev, the Foreign Trade Minister of the Soviet Union, is visiting Australia. On Wednesday he visited a machine tool agency in Sydney where he saw a display of Soviet equipment distributed by the firm.
The Minister has already announced that his visit will include the signing of a new agreement between Australia and the Soviet Union on trade and economic relations.
He said the U.S.S.R. was in favour of active development of relations with Australia. The minister's visit comes at a time when Australia has initiated contacts with The People's Republic of China.
SYNOPSIS: The foreign Trade Minister of the Soviet Union, Mr. Nikolai Patclichev, visited a machine tool agency in Sydney this week. He was welcomed by Mr. Alan Smith, managing director of the agency, which distributes Soviet-made equipment in Australia.
The Minister's visit to Australia comes at a time when the new Australian government has been exploring the possibilities of trade with The People's Republic of China. Mr. Patolichev has stressed that the Soviet Union wants to improve its relations with Australia. During his visit the two countries will sign an agreement on developing their trade and economic relations. It's the first since 1965.
Mr. Patolichev said the Soviet Union would also be giving much attention to further developing scientific and technical co-operation.
