Background: The annual Tokyo Racing Car show opened on Friday (2 March) with a sparkling array of 70 current international racing cars on exhibition.

The colourful display of shiny horsepower is in a special pavilion on the big Harumi Pier exhibition site.

Each year, Japan stages about one hundred motor races. One of the big attractions is the Fuji Grand Champion Series....the first scheduled for March 18, and a large entry will include British and German cars, including Lolas, BMWs, and record-holding Porches.

The first race on the Fuji programme will be held on the Fuji Mountain Circuit.

Many of the cars on display at the exhibition will be used during 1973 as Japan's bid to win the world sports car titles from Europe.
