Some of the costumes to be sold where cut for Chanel herself and others were the originals for her shows. The famous couturier died in 1971 at the age of eighty-seven and the sale has been organised by her closest.

    SYNOPSIS: This black sleeveless, and side-buttoning dress was made for Mademoiselle Chanel herself. Her fame as a designer peaked in the 1920s, notably for replacing fussy and extravagant fashions with simple, comfortable clothes. At the auction preview, visnews reporter John Darby talked to Christie's Paris representative, Princess Jeanne-marie Broglie, about Chanel.
