    Three ships of the Australian Navy are on a three-month goodwill tour, visiting Indian Ocean ports. They are the guided missile destroyer. Her Majesty's Australian Ship, Perth, the destroyer escort H.M.A.S. Derwent and the oiler H.M.A.S. Supply.

    On Thursday (1 March) the ships sailed into Port Louis and Captain Percy, senior officer in charge of the tour made courtesy calls ashore. He was accompanied by the Australian High Commissioner, Captain Loosli of the Supply and Commander Jackson of the Derwent.

    Among the people they visited was the Governor-General of Mauritius, General Sir Raman Deman and the Prime Minister, Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam.

    The ships will also visit Kenya, Ethiopia, Bahrain, Iran, Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and the Seychelles. The Deputy Prime Minister of Australia, Mr. Lance Barnard, when announcing the cruise, said that countries bordering the Indian Ocean area had come to recognise common interests in an area of political and strategic significance. The visit would contribute to those interests and to the recognition of Australia as a neighbour bordering the Indian Ocean.

    The ships were the guided missile destroyer, Her Majesty's Australian Ship, Perth, the destroyer escort, H.M.A.S. Derwent and the oiler H.M.A.S. Supply.

    The cruise lasts three months. after Mauritius, places to be visited include Kenya, Ethiopia, Bahrain, Iran, Pakistan, india, Sir Lanka, Indonesia and the Seychelles. The ships sailed from Australia on February nineteenth.

    Captain Percy, senior officer in charge of the tour, the Australian High Commissioner, Captain Loosli of the Supply and Commander Jackson of the Derwent made courtesy calls ashore in Mauritius. They included a meeting with Prime Minister Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam.

    The Australian Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Lance Barnard recently said the cruise would contribute to a recognition of the common interests of countries bordering the Indian Ocean, and would help Australia to be recognised as a neighbour.
