Background: Some of Kenya's top athletes took part in the Kenya Amateur Athletic Association athletic meeting in Kisumu on sunday (29 February)
It was hoped that keen competition would be provided by a team of 17 Ugandans but they had to withdraw from the meeting at the last minute because of a Kenyan-Uganda border crisis.

However spectators at the meeting were provided with plenty of excitement as they saw one of their country's leading women runners, alice Adala, flash to victory in the 100 and 200 metre sprints. Alice Adala is the only woman athlete from Kenya who has qualified for this year's Olympic Games in Montreal, Canada.

She won the 100 metre race in 12.3 seconds and the 200 metre dash in 24.9 seconds.

In the men's 1500 metre race Nicholas Serem narrowly beat Kipsubai Koskei in 3 minutes 44 seconds.

The men's 100 metre sprint was won by Charles Asati in 10.6 seconds. In the 400 metre men's hurdles Daniel Kimaiyo won the event in 52.4 seconds.
