  • Description

On his second day in England, April 6, gen de Gaulle will be welcomed outside his wartime headquarters at 4 Carlton Gardens, London, by the Free Association - the Associates des Francais Libres de Grande Bretagne.

The General's headquarters, which bears a plaque commemorating the great rallying appeal he made from 4 Carlton Garden in June 1940, is now the head office of Pinchin, Johnson and Associates Ltd., the largest paint manufacturing organisation in the British Commonwealth.

Gen. de Gaulle's former office is now - by coincidence - occupied by one of his wartime comrades in arms, Mr. Frank Ingham Clark, Finchin Johnson's Sales Director, who served as a Lieutenant Colonel in association with the Free French. On office wall is a portrait presented by de Gaulle in 1956. Filmed with Mr. Clark was Col. Burdet, a wartime resistance leader in the south of France.
