Soccer....and in Lima on Saturday (22 April), World Cup finalists Peru beat the Chinese national side 2-1 in a pre-Argentina friendly. The Chinese, on a tour of South america, had earlier played matches against Peruvian league sides, and, on the 12th of April, they had drawn 2-2 with Colombia in Bogota.
SYNOPSIS: In the first half, China, in the dark shirts, playing from right to left, showed some neat touches, but this shot posed no problems.
The Peruvians were quick to break back, but the final shot was well over the top.
China again attacked down the left...the ball was crossed and scrambled away.
The first Peruvian goal came after 25 minutes, and it came as a result of Chinese defensive error. A back pass was mis-hit, and Roberto Mosquera made no mistake from six yards (five metres).
After the interval, Peru went straight on to the attack...the ball went down the left....it was clipped into the middle...headed clear....and the Chinese switched quickly from defence to attack.
More Chinese pressure followed....a low drive....but again just wide.
From the clearance, Peru attacked down the left flank, but the Chinese goal keeper was quick off his line to block the danger.
The Chinese were doing well against the World Cup finalists. They pushed the ball about with confidence, and got back on level terms in the 53rd minute through Chih Shang Pin.
The Peruvians hit back quickly....but no goal.
Peru did score again through Percy Rojas in the 64th minute, but they failed to impress.
