192 miles from Delhi, lies the Pink City of India - Jaipur. Founded in 1728, this city attracts tourist from all parts of the world. And among the many wonders they see is the inganious observatory built in the eighteenth century by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh.
An enthusiastic astronomer, the Maharaja built four other observatories at Delhi, Mathura, Banaras and Ujjain, but the Jaipur observatory is the largest of them all.
It stands outside the gate leading to Mubarak Mahal. Several of the odd instruments built with extreme preciseness were designed and used by the Maharaja himself and still in use today.
