    GHANA'S NEW PRIME MINISTER, DR. KOFI BUSIA, ARRIVED AT LONDON AIRPORT TODAY (THURSDAY) FOR A FIVE-DAY VISIT AS A GUEST OF THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT. DURING HIS STAY HE WILL HAVE TALKS WITH THE PRIME MINISTER, MR. HAROLD WILSON, AND THE FOREIGN AND COMMONWEALTH SECRETARY, MR. MICHAEL STEWART.

    DR. BUSIA IS AT PRESENT ON A TOUR OF LEADING WESTERN COUNTRIES - HIS FIRST SINCE HIS PARTY WON THE GENERAL ELECTION IN AUGUST. HE ARRIVED TODAY FROM THE UNITED STATES AND LEAVES FOR FRANCE ON TUESDAY (28 OCT).

    WITH HIM ARE LEADING MEMBERS OF HIS ADMINISTRATION, INCLUDING MR. J.H. MENSAH, MINISTER OF FINANCE AND ECONOMIC PLANNING, AND MR. VICTOR OWUSU, MINISTER OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS.

    THE PRESENCE OF MR. MENSAH INDICATES THE IMPORTANCE DR. BUSIA ATTACHES TO SOLVING GHANA'S PRESSING ECONOMIC PROBLEMS - HIS GOVERNMENT INHERITED A DEBT OF ALMOST 340 MILLION STERLING (816 MILLION DOLLARS), MOSTLY TO WESTERN COUNTRIES. IF THE TERMS OF THESE DEBTS CAN BE RENEGOTIATED, AND NEW CAPITAL ATTRACTED TO GHANA, THE GOVERNMENT WILL BE IN POSITION TO REALISE ITS PLANS.

    ANOTHER OBJECTIVE OF DR. BUSIA'S JOURNEY IS TO SEEK A STABLE WORLD PRICE FOR COCOA, THE MAINSTAY OF GHANA'S ECONOMY.
