    The United Nations General Assembly accepted an amendment offered by 22 African States to reject the credentials of the South African delegation for the current 27th session.

    The World body accepted the vote by 65 to 40, with 21 members abstaining.

    The amendment was introduced by the Tanzanian Ambassador Salim Salim (ed: correct) who said that acceptance of the South African delegations' credentials would be tantamount to capitulating to the policies of the "racist regime and a great moral setback to he people of South Africa."
