Background: President Zaid Bin Sultan of the United Arab Emirates, accompanied by six ministers, has been in New Delhi for talks with Indian leaders. During their stay President Zaid and his delegation discussed economic and cultural relations, as well as the Middle East situation.
On Thursday (2 January) they conferred with Indian Foreign Minister Yashwantrao Chavan and had lunch with Prime Minister Indira Ghandi. The two sides had exploratory meetings on the supply of crude oil to India, and joint steel and other projects.
President Zaid and his party left New Delhi on Saturday (4 January) and were given a ceremonial send off at Palam Airport. The Arab delegation boarded a helicopter which took off for the Indian town of Aligarh, where they visited the Muslim University. The party also visited Agra - famous for the Taj Mahal monument - and Bombay.
