SYNOPSIS: More than two thousand members of the Black Panther organisation marched through the streets of Jerusalem yesterday in an anti-Government demonstration. Before setting out the demonstrators listened to their leaders making speeches in Davidka Square.

Then, the demonstrators moved off through the city. They carried banners accusing the Israeli Government of ignoring poverty and discrimination. It seemed likely the demonstration might be called off until the last minute. The authorities only allowed it to be held after leaders of the Black Panthers promised that the demonstration would be peaceful. There were no incidents reported.
