    HMS "OCELOT" - A BRITISH SUBMARINE OF THE NEW OBERON CLASS - WENT INTO DRY DOCK AT CHATHAM, KENT, YESTERDAY (MONDAY) TO BE FITTED OUT.

    FILM SHOWS THE "OCELOT", THE PORPOISE CLASS SUBMARINE "FINWHALE" AND THE NAVAL TRAINING SHIP "ARETHUSA". IN THE NAVAL DOCKYARD, AN OBERON CLASS SUBMARINE IS SHOWN UNDER CONSTRUCTION.

    FOUR OF THE NEW SUBMARINES ARE TO BE DELIVERED TO THE ROYAL AUSTRALIAN NAVY FROM DECEMBER 1966 ONWARDS. DISPLACING JUST UNDER 2,500 TONS WHEN SUBMERGED, AND EQUIPPED WITH HOMING TORPEDOES, THE WILL COST A TOTAL OF NEARLY GBP18 MILLION (GBPA22.4 MILLION),
    AUSTRALIAN OFFICERS AND MEN ARE TO GO TO THE ROYAL NAVY TRAINING ESTABLISHMENT AND SERVE IN ROYAL NAVY SUBMARINES UNTIL THE FIRST R.A.N. SUBMARINE IS READY TO BE TAKEN TO SYDNEY. THREE ROYAL NAVY T CLASS SUBMARINES AT PRESENT BASED IN SYDNEY WILL BE PROGRESSIVELY WITHDRAWN.
