Background: An exhibition of Soviet products and literature opened in the Chamber of Commerce Hall in Brazzaville, The Congo, on Monday (25 August).
The exhibition, which specialised in literature, watches, photographic equipment, household wares, wines and materials, is designed to promote trade and cultural exchanges between the Soviet Union and The Congo.
Soviet Vice-Minister of Commerce, Mr. Ivan Grichin, performed the opening ceremonies and said it was "the will and co-operation between my country and The Congo that inspired this exhibition."
He expressed the wish that exchanges and meetings between representatives of the two countries would "constitute a new step on the road to progress."
The Congolese Government was represented by Mr. Jacob O'Kandza. Mr. O'Kandza is a member of the Political Bureau and secretary of the Central Committee at the Commission of Planning.
Mr. O'Kandza's official party included local diplomats and dignitaries. They were taken on a tour of the exhibition by Mr. Grichin.
