  • Description

A man identified by Police as Eric Flower -- an associate of the British train robber Ronald Biggs -- appeared in the Ryde Court of Petty Sessions in Sydney today and was remanded in custody until Friday. The man arrived at the court house in a police car. He was escorted at all times by two police officers and was handcuffed to one of them.

Inside the court the man was charged, under the Fugitive Offenders Act, with robbery with violence. The police prosecutor told the court that Flower escaped from Wandsworth Prison in London in 1965.

The Police Prosecutor also told the court that the man identified as Flower had been apprehended early this morning at a house in the Sydney suburb of Beecroft. The Prosecutor said Flower had occupied the house with his wife and daughter.

The man identified as Flower asked the court for legal representation for himself, his wife and daughter. The magistrate told him he would be given the opportunity to obtain legal assistance.
