The papers and research studies that the delegates will give during the week will cover pure sciences, agricultural medical and engineering sciences. About 150 delegates from nineteen countries and agencies will be taking part in the conference.

The participating countries include: Syria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Turkey, Iran, France, West Germany, the German Democratic Republic, Hungary, the United States and Britain. Also present are delegations from the International Atomic Energy Agency, the United Nations and UNESCO.

Among the opening addresses on the first day was one given by Dr. Abdel Halim Mansour, the Chairman of the Report Committee of the Supreme Council.

This week's conference occurs in the millenary year of the famous Persian scientist, Al Biruni. A thousand years ago he established a reputation, not only as a man of science, but also as an historian, linguist and writer. This year's conference has been dedicated to his memory.
