  • Description

President Camill Chamoun with his Ministers arrive to inspect some examples of American military equipment supplied to the Lebanese Government.

After honouring the colours and reviewing the guard of honour the President and his colleagues displayed grant interest in the equipment, which included machine guns, automatics, motor-cycles, jeeps, and a field hospital.

The President insisted on handling some of the weapons.

As long ago as March 1957 the Lebanese Government announced that it supported the "Eisenhower Doctrines; and that it had been agreed in principle that the U.S. Government should provide the Lebanese Government with "certain equipment needed to strengthen the Lebanese armed forces, in addition to a recent grant of military equipment for the same purpose."
